Yuri Gagarin shows up in Bethlehem

A monument in memory of the soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin - first man having entered outer space - was inaugurated on the Nativity Square in Bethlehem in January. Most of people obviously wondered why it was so necessary to put it right on the Nativity Square, and not in any other less symbolical and religious place. To convince them, a Russian envoy to Bethlehem explained that this statue materialized the Russian historical presence in Palestine, and reinforced the strong ties existing between the two countries.


However, it turns out that unveiling Gagarin's bust is a widespread practice, and such monuments have already been erected in more than 30 places accross the planet.
But this time, though, the location of the statue was chosen out of not quite understandable considerations...
