The oldest smiley in the world? :)

Believe it or not, the teenagers of the XXI century are not the inventors of this frequently used symbol, known as a "smiley".

Among youngsters, smileys have become a quite common way to express emotions in a friendly manner, and avoiding the use of complicated words. The most basic smiley is a " :) " - which represents two eyes and a smile, letting your interlocutor know that you're in a good mood.

This precise smiley has been found on an antic piece of pottery, in the city of Karmkemish, in Turkey. The team of archeologists who discovered it dated the vase 1700 before our era. They suppose this vase was used as a container for a traditional drink made of fruit : the "sherbeta". N. Marchetti, an historian from the Bologna University, assumes it is the oldest smiley in the world.
However, the purpose of such an atypical drawing is up to our imagination...
