Elon Musk is afraid of the rapid progress Russia is making in the area of AI. Russian citizens ironically tell him not to worry about it.
On September, 1st during a meeting with students of Yaroslavl, Vladimir Putin declared that AI was the future of mankind. He added, solemnly: "Who will become a leader in this sector, will be the master of the world". Putin didn't forget to mention drones : "A war is definitely over when drones of one side have destroyed drones of the other side."
To Elon Musk - who recently signed a petition calling the UN to regulate AI weapons - this increasing competition between states, trying to use AI for military purposes, represents an imminent danger. Moreovern he considers that it could lead to WW3. Musk immediately reacted to this statement via Twitter, saying "It begins...".
